Visual Texture Classification and Segmentation by Genetic Programming

چکیده
While there is a considerable history of work on visual texture, the definition of texture is still imprecise. However, it is generally agreed that a texture is spatially homogeneous and contains repeated visual patterns. In synthetic textures, such as horizontal lines, vertical lines or a checkerboard, the basic structure is repeated exactly. In natural textures, such as grass, wood, sand or rocks, there is some random variation in size, shape, intensity or colour in the repetitions of the basic structure. Figure 10.1 shows some examples of artificial (a,b) and natural (c,d) textures. Texture information is potentially very useful in computer vision applications such as image/video retrieval, automated industrial inspection and robot navigation. However, currently deployed systems do not use texture, primarily because current algorithms result in unacceptably long computation times. Fast and accurate texture recognition could have a major impact on the design of future vision systems.

Introduction The texture is " A measure of the variation of the intensity of a surface, quantifying properties such as smoothness, coarseness, and regularity. " Textures are homogenous visual patterns in a scene such as grass, cloud, wood, and sand. Although the stated definition is an acceptable one, Zucker and Kant described the textures as: "Texture is an apparently paradoxical notion. On th...

Many researches have demonstrated that the spatial information can play an important role in the classification of hyperspectral imagery. This study proposes a modified spectral–spatial classification approach for improving the spectral–spatial classification of hyperspectral images. In the proposed method ten spatial/texture features, using mean, standard deviation, contrast, homogeneity, corr...

Introduction: The process of discriminating among benign and malignant hyperplasia begun with subjective methods using light microscopy and is now being continued with computerized morphometrical analysis requiring some features. One of the main features called Volume Percentage of Stroma (VPS) is obtained by calculating the percentage of stroma texture. Currently, this feature is calculated ...
متن کاملFast Texture Segmentation using Genetic Programming
This paper presents a method which extends the use of genetic programming (GP) to a complex domain, texture segmentation. By this method, segmentation tasks are performed by texture classifiers which are evolved by GP. Small cutouts sampled from images of various textures are used for the evolution. The generated classifiers directly use pixel values as input. Based on these classifiers an algo...
